The official 1.0 warning changes the first fix

Palworld 1.0 changed underlying systems. Pocketpair warns that old mods can cause startup crashes, crashes during play, save damage and blocked quest progress. Disabling a mod in a manager may leave its files or loader in the installation, so file verification alone does not prove the game is vanilla.

The safe sequence is backup first, third-party cleanup second, Steam verification third, and a clean launch fourth.

02

Low-risk fix order

  1. 01

Install the latest Palworld patch and restart Steam.

  2. 02

Copy the complete save to a dated location outside the game directory.

  3. 03

Disable and unsubscribe from Workshop mods.

  4. 04

Move known manual mods, UE4SS files, loaders and third-party DLLs out of the install directory.

  5. 05

Use Steam Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

  6. 06

Close overlays, recording tools and GPU tuning software, then launch one new vanilla world.

  7. 07

Open the old world only after the new world is stable.

03

Use the crash timing to choose the next layer

Before menu
residual mod, loader, launch option or install file
One old world
save, removed mod dependency or heavy world state
Every world
installation, driver, overlay or system stability
After long play
RAM/VRAM, temperature, large bases or server load
04

Do not overwrite the diagnostic evidence

If only the old world fails, keep the untouched backup and try an earlier copy. Do not repeatedly save over the affected world after removing a content mod; missing objects can be made permanent.

If multiplayer alone fails, align server and client versions, remove mods on both sides and inspect the dedicated-server logs and memory use. Pocketpair recommends 16 GB for a server baseline and more than 32 GB for larger deployments.

05

When to touch drivers and graphics

Update the GPU driver after the clean, mod-free test still fails. If the game starts but crashes under load, reduce textures, shadows, view distance, effects and foliage in small groups. Reset overclocks and undervolts while testing.

Avoid registry edits, random DLL downloads and simultaneous system changes. One change per test is slower for five minutes and faster over an evening because the result explains the cause.
