How to Find, Beat, and Catch Panthalus

Panthalus is not a normal wild Alpha. The level 70 Water Pal is tied to a World Tree progression quest. The Ancient Civilization Researcher on the Deserted Islet gives the Faded Schematic and starts the Echobone search.

When the quest is active, the huge whale skeletons emit a yellow sky beacon, making aerial travel the easiest way to confirm each site.

After collecting the four bones, craft the Echoing Flute at a Workbench. Bring it back to the shrine beside the researcher to enter the arena.

Build for a water arena

The arena is mostly ocean with one small island, so ground Pals lose much of their value. Panthalus is pure Water and therefore vulnerable to Electric damage. Beakon offers airborne Electric pressure; riding Univolt can convert the player's attacks through its partner skill.

Current guidance favors high-output weapons such as a Multi-Guided Rocket Launcher or Plasma Cannon. More important than the exact weapon is the ability to keep dealing damage while repositioning above water.

Phase one and phase two

1. 01

   In phase one, focus the large head crystal for bonus damage.

2. 02

   Leave the path of Maelstrom and Tidal Wave animations early rather than trying to finish one more shot.

3. 03

   As Panthalus moves closer in phase two, fire and move; do not hover directly beneath it.

4. 04

   Treat a body slam from directly below as lethal and keep a lateral escape route open.

The capture cannot be missed by over-damage

Panthalus has a special finish: damage reduces it to 1 HP instead of killing it. Throw a Pal Sphere at that point for the guaranteed capture described by the current guide. The catch enables the next World Tree terminal progression step.

Version 1.0.3 corrected a mismatch between some wave visuals and their damage area, so update before learning the dodge timing.
