Why walking past the location does nothing
Chromite does not present itself like a normal ore outcrop. The deposit remains hidden until a detection method marks it. That is why old coordinate lists can send a player to the correct cave and still appear wrong.
The Metal Detector is the equipment route. Smokie is the Pal route through its Dig, Dog! Dig! partner skill. Smokie must be active, not merely stored in the party, when you search.

Reliable locations before random surface hunting
- 01
Start with Feybreak dungeons, where Chromite is more common than on the open surface.
- 02
Check the underground Alpha lairs for Kitsun Noct, Splatterina and Silvegis; these spaces are easier to repeat than scattered terrain nodes.
- 03
Keep the detector equipped or Smokie deployed as you move through the entire chamber, not only the entrance.
- 04
After defeating the Feybreak Tower, add the Dark Cave of Feybreak Expedition as a passive source.
Smokie condensation: what actually matters
The current Wiki notes that one condensed Smokie is enough to receive the full partner-skill benefit. That makes the Pal method practical without committing an entire condensation project before your first run.
Silvegis is also a direct drop source, but fighting an Alpha only for a small amount is usually a supplement to the buried-node circuit, not a replacement for it.
Chromite becomes Hexolite
Chromite's main production role is Hexolite. The current recipe combines five Chromite, twelve Hexolite Quartz and twenty Ore. A Chromite trip therefore stalls if the base is short on ordinary Ore or the Quartz leg of the route.
Stock the three ingredients separately and schedule the smelter after the run. That makes the bottleneck visible instead of leaving detected Chromite sitting unused in a chest.
